Fans of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” were stunned when this season’s frontrunner, Brooks Forester, left the show on this week’s episode after telling Desiree Hartsock that she wasn’t the love of his life. Now, with the second half of the two-part finale set for August 5, it looks like a regretful Brooks could be back.
On July 30, Us Weekly reported that Brooks began to second guess his choice to dump Des “almost immediately” after it happened in Antigua. A source told the magazine that Brooks cares “deeply for Des. His feelings were incredibly strong, which made his decision [to leave] difficult.”
On camera, Brooks called the break up the “worst day of [his] life,” and tearfully admitted, “I didn’t want to leave her. I wasn’t expecting that.”
Desiree made things even more difficult when she revealed to Brooks that she was in love with him, something the show’s star isn’t usually allowed to disclose before the finale. That declaration seemed to surprise Brooks, who asked her, “Why didn’t you tell me that earlier?”
The finale continues Monday, with the remaining men, Chris Siegfried and Drew Kenney, slated to be the next casualties. Hartsock has already said, “It breaks my heart knowing that I have two amazing, unreal guys who do love me. I just can’t love them as much…And that’s not what they deserve. Honestly, for me, it’s over.”
But on her blog for People, Hartsock dropped a hint that we haven’t seen the last of Brooks.
“I am relieved now that [Brooks] was honest about his feelings and that he was brave enough to address them before taking the relationship further,” she wrote. “Stay tuned next week to find out what happens with Brooks, my broken heart and the remaining men.”
In addition, “Bachelor” spoiler king “Reality Steve” Carbone is not wavering on his prediction that Desiree ends up engaged to Brooks. In a July 30 update on his website, Carbone wrote, “I don’t know at what point he shows back up, what he says, or how she takes him back, but I can’t be more positive that my spoilers are right and she ends up with Brooks.”
The three-hour season finale of “The Bachelorette” airs on Monday, August 5 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
