The Wisconsin State Fair opens on Aug. 1 and runs through Aug. 11, 2013, for 11 days of family oriented fun and entertainment. The annual fair is held at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in West Allis, just west of Milwaukee, Wisc., which is about 90 miles north of Chicago. The fair is an excellent destination for a day trip for the entire family.
The fair offers a cornucopia of entertainment, agricultural exhibits, show, contests, carnival rides, food, drinks and music. Most of the entertainment is included with admission to the fair, but there is an extra admission fee for the grandstand entertainment at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino. The lineup includes national acts including Heart, Weird Al Yankovic, Gary Allen, the Happy Together Tour, Sail Rock 2013, Hillsong and Miranda Lambert. Following is the schedule for the Potawatomi Bingo Casino Stage. It is best to purchase tickets in advance because fair admission is included with the grandstand ticket purchase, to save money.
Thurs, Aug. 1: Heart with Ann and Nancy Wilson will rock the house with hits like “Crazy on You” and “Barracuda.” The show will be opened with a half hour tribute to Led Zeppelin by Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. 7:30 p.m. $25 & $35.
Fri., Aug. 2: Weird Al Yankovic brings his national Apocalypse tour to the fair. 8 p.m. $25.
Sat., Aug. 3: Country star Gary Allan will perform his newest Billboard #1 hit “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain).” Randy Houser opens the show. 8 p.m. $25 & $35.
Sun., Aug. 4: A night of musical memories comes from the Happy Together Tour featuring The Turtles, Chuck Negron, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, Mark Lindsay, and Gary Lewis & The Playboys. 7 p.m. $25 & $35.
Mon., Aug. 5: Sail Rock 2013 starring Christopher Cross, Orleans, Gary Wright, Firefall, John Ford Coley, Robbie Dupree and Player. 7:30 p.m. $25 & $35.
Tues., Aug. 6: Theory of a Deadman with Blackstone Cherry, 7:30 p.m. $25 & $35.
Wed., Aug. 7: Christian artists Hillsong perform “A Night of Worship with Hillsong LIVE.” 7:30 p.m. $25.
Thurs., Aug. 8: An Evening with YES, 7:30 p.m. $25 & $25.

The Potawatomi Bingo Casino Main Stage is a popular attraction at the Wisconsin State Fair, but there are numerous entertaining activities to enjoy while visiting the fair. Arrive early to walk the grounds and take in some exhibits and agricultural shows. The large food court area offers a variety of culinary choices, some healthy and some high-fat indulgences, including the numerous types of ever-popular food on a stick. Plan to eat a snack or a meal before and/or after the show. Beer and beverages are available in the grandstand area.
The Wisconsin State Fair is open Sunday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to midnight; and Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Aug. 11. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors 60 and older and $6 for youth ages 6-11. There is no admission fee for children ages 5 and younger. Parking in the fair lot is $10.
