According to an article Wednesday on ProBoxingInsider.com, heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko, known as a gentleman when he is not in the ring, on Wednesday denied a report that he was involved in a brawl with Dereck Chisora last week on the island of Ibiza.
“I’m quite shocked by the recent British media stories about an alleged brawl between myself and Dereck Chisora,” Klitschko said in a statement. “I am a professional prize fighter and let my fists do the talking only inside the ring. I don’t want to comment on Chisora’s psychological issues.”
There were reports from the British media that Wladimir Klitschko and Dereck Chisora were apparently both on vacation at the island when they crossed paths at a nightclub there. Of course Chisora has a history of behavioral issues and has a history with the Klitschko brothers.
Back in 2012, when Chisora was about to face Wladimir’s brother Vitali Klitschko, he spit water in Wladimir’s face. Wladimir managed to remain calm, and Vitali went on to win a very one sided decision.
At the weigh-ins for the same fight, Dereck Chisora slapped Vitali in the face. Then after the fight, there was the infamous brawl between Chisora and David Haye that led to those two having their own fight, which Haye would go on to win.
Just a little over a week ago, after he scored a controversial knockout over Malik Scott when the referee may have waved off the fight too early, Chisora said that he was looking for a fight with either of the Klitschko brothers.
If Chisora wants to fight either brother, he will have to wait awhile. Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to defend his belts in October against Alexander Povetkin. Vitali Klitschko is currently in negotiations with his mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne. Meanwhile, Chisora is scheduled to fight on Sept. 21 against an opponent to be determined in London.
