Lori Virdure, managing extraordinaire of Langford Market in the 2ND Street District, is styling Austin with a little more sass and a lot more swag. This Louisiana transplant exudes fashion forward thinking with a slight flair for the exotic. Her strong work ethic and obvious passion for artistic fashion has made her a standout candidate against others in her class. She is bold, brazen, and a wizard with the wardrobe.
Austin Style met the lady behind the name earlier this year; it should be no secret that Langford Market is a local favorite. Virdure’s work in the 2ND Street ‘bou has elevated Langford Market into the upper echelon of women’s apparel hot spots. Langford’s boho-chic style is reminiscent of Virdure herself – maxi dresses, clean silhouettes, and bold patterns are just a few trends that dominate this stylist’s wardrobe.
What does your style say about YOU?
My style expresses my mood day to day [and is] consistently conversing with the world, “individuality and confidence, yet approachable.”
Locally, where do you shop?
Langford Market, Etcetera etc, Girl Next Door, Zara, and every thrift store in the 787whatever because I love great, thrifty pieces!
Austin’s 2ND Street District is a hive of activity. From San Antonio Street to Congress, this single lane runway houses some of the city’s most sought after labels. Once described as Austin’s “SoHo”, 2ND Street is home to several unique boutiques and well revered dining establishments. It is a destination shopping arena, and an arena where Langford Market consistently leads the competition in exposure and sales.
In addition to managing this thriving storefront, Lori Virdure spends her spare time dressing Austinites for events and parties. As a stylist, she has the unique opportunity to translate a client’s personality into an outward expression of personal taste. Her ability to dictate words into fashion is the reason Austin Style sought her out for Women and Work: her talent is seemingly effortless and her work is flawless.
You also freelance as a stylist; what factors contribute to developing someone’s style?
My passions is developing personal style for others. I like to make sure their image portrays the best of what [they] feel about themselves.
What plays into your wardrobe selection?
Clients usually complete a quick questionnaire [that] gives me insight on their goals. As for selecting pieces, I always go for the unique version of my client’s request. However, comfort is pivotal so I balance pushing the limits from one person to the next.
What is your favorite “go to” look?
Maxi dresses paired with lots of vintage accessories, and a sheer caftan (love!). I feel timeless and feminine.
Lori Virdure’s “look” IS timeless. Her personal style is forward and ahead of the trends, yet it never pushes the envelope too far in either direction. Her preference of fabric, print, and silhouette creates a visible persona that says, “hey. I’m a woman, and I love the skin I live in.” She is a woman for the women, and she takes her role as a mentor and style icon seriously.
To you, what is Austin Style?
Eclectic! The best of everything – I see it all!
Lori Virdure is a woman on top: self made, ambitious, and encouraging others to follow their own passion. From her bangles to her brows, this woman has made confidence a necessity, and style an accessory.
