It’s time to ask the age old question, “Do you respect Wood?”
This whole week I’ll be featuring an eclectic array of everyday items that feature natural wooden designs. Everything the all-natural guy or gal might need for a full day at home or on the go. Many of the items I’ll feature are proudly made in the USA by hand. Wherever you spend your days, you can be a step closer to nature with these beautiful and useful items that take advantage of naturally felled, sustainably grown, and even reclaimed local woods.
As you sit there surveying your phone this Memorial day, no doubt stuffed to the hilt with hot dogs and beer, stop and take another moment to remember the brave men and women who’ve fought so valiantly and given their lives to defend everything that’s great about these United States. Freedom and the pursuit of happiness without restraint is not easily won. If you saw fit, you could walk down the street covered in nothing but peanut butter, as long as you covered up the important bits. It’s a silly notion but it’s possible, that’s a freedom that is seldom seen in plenty of other places in the world. For better or for worse, we decide our individualized style as Americans. Will you fight against the never ceasing wave of gray and white plastic boredom? The blanding of America fights tirelessly to assign you a uniform. Will you accept your place? or will you cast apple’s earbuds aside in favor of some reclaimed beech wood headphones made near the sunny shores of Southern California? Will you proudly proclaim, “NO!” as you toss your car keys and wallet into the sustainable Mango Wood bowl by your front door? I think you’ll fight, AND I THINK YOU’LL WIN! If we don’t regularly exercise the freedoms that we enjoy, it’s that much easier to take them away from us. So toss away those generic watches, wallets, and sunglasses and say hello to something better. Say hello to something wooden.
As I sit here to finally toast the day, I raise my beer to the screen. It sits snugly in a Luxury Wooden Beer Koozie by Parlor Tailoring. Parlor is based in the Golden Hills of Northern California where they spin Red Oak, Cherry, Aligre, Rosewood, and Zebrawood into the finest spot that a 12 oz. beer could think to rest it’s hips. Originally funded by a highly successful kickstarter campaign, The Koozies are made with a strong, durable, waterproof, non toxic adhesive. After it dries, Three coats of lacquer are applied allowing the koozie to be cleaned and kept bacteria free, even in a dishwasher. Each Koozie is branded internally with Parlor’s mark, letting you know the product is proudly made in the USA. Contact Parlor and they’ll even arrange for custom printing which makes these perfect for the soldier in your life. Before they are soldiers, they are brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters. Who needs that world’s best grandpa t-shirt when you can have a custom “world’s best grandpa” emblazoned beer koozie made from exotic Zebrawood just for him! The Koozies start at a very reasonable $25 dollars for the more common woods and top off at $45 each for the exotics.
