The engineering trade skill may not make a World of Warcraft player rich, but it is a rewarding path. Gnomes and Goblins receive the first fifteen points in this skill for free, but any Azerothian race can train it. These players bring technological wonders to the game. Many of them rival the wonders wrought by the mages and other magic users in the World of Warcraft.
Before a person can become a zen master in any skill, he needs to master some basic tasks. Players should also consider taking the mining gathering skill to complement this set. A player who does not choose mining can expect to pay more on the auction house for the needed materials.
What Does a Person Need to Practice Engineering?
Mining will require a pickaxe, and an engineer may need a hammer and several other items. Once an engineer reaches the appropriate level, he can pick up the Gnomish Army Knife. The gnomish army knife, like the goblin jumper cables, have a chance of bringing someone back to life. Other benefits include rocket boots, explosives, and many other things that can enhance a player’s experience in Azeroth. The player can even build flying mounts and motorcycles. An engineer can even make his own parachute.
Where to Get This Skill
Every starting city has its own engineers, Alliance players who make the trip to Ironforge or Stormwind will find several trainers, and Horde players can learn the skill in Ogrimmar. Night elf players have to venture out of Darnassus, particularly if they want to learn mining. The first mining trainer a night elf might encounter, unless Blizzard has changed it recently, is found in Auberdeen.
So, What Do I Make First?
World of Warcraft’s crafting system is easy to follow. Orange items will give the player a skill up, items whose names are displayed in yellow will give a skill up, and items whose names are displayed in green may give a skill up, and gray items will not help the player get any skill. The first item a player may want to start with is simple bolts. It will be this way at the start of every tier. Each particular tier requires its own components to make the more complex requirements. If someone makes the components first, he has the items he needs for the more complex items in each tier.
Classic World of Warcraft Tinkering: A Suggested Path for Items
To get to 75 a player can make: (The engineer does not have to make these. They are suggestions only.
Rough Blasting Powder
Handful of Copper Bolts
To get from 76 to 150, the engineer can make:
Coarse Blasting Powder
Small Bronze Bombs
Heavy Blasting Powder
Big Bronze Bombs
To get from 151 to 225, the player can make: (He does not have to do so.)
Gyromatic Micro Adjustor
Big Iron Bomb
High Impact Mithril Slugs
To finish up Classical Engineering in World of Warcraft, players can make:
At 225, a player can choose an Engineering specialization. They can choose Gnomish or Goblin Engineering. They do not have to choose one, and their choice will affect the items they can make. Any engineer can use the items made by these specialists. A goblin engineer, for example, will find the Gnomish army knife useful. It also works as a skinning knife.
However, this is a difficult time, and some older guides suggest that the player head to Gadgetzan. Except for the Goblin Engineering specialization, such a trip is no longer necessary. Before a player hits 60, he should go into Blackrock Caverns and get the plans for the Field Repair Bot 74A.
Anyway, here is one quick way to get through this tier:
High Explosive Bombs
Mithril Gyro Shot
Dense Gyro Shot
Now on to the Engineering That Helped Defeat the Burning Legion
Engineering trainers for the Burning Crusade zones can be found in Hellfire and in Shattrath. However, these skills can be picked up from Stormwind or Ogrimmar as well. This tier allows players to make their own flying mounts.
To help defeat the Burning Legion, make:
Handful of Fel Iron Bolts
Fel Iron Cases
Elemental Blasting Powder
Fel Iron Bomb
Fel Iron Musket
Ultra-spectropic detection goggles
Khorium Scope (A player can sell these to hunters).
Engineers Facing the Wrath of the Lich King:
Now that the player has faced the might of the Burning Legion, he needs to turn back the Scourge. He can also explore an arctic land. An engineer can get the keys to the chopper. None of this is needed for an engineer to get to 450. He has to make the Gnomish Army Knife, however. Here is one suggested path:
Handful of Cobalt Bolts
Volatile lasting Power
Hammer Pick/Bladed Pickaxe
Diamond-cut refractor scope
Saronite Arrow Maker
Global Thermal Sapper Charge
Gnomish Army Knife
