The Rabito Kontento Animal Rescuers were shocked and sickened after finding a tiny puppy with his four legs cut off – leaving exposed bone and a raging infection. The announcement of the puppy’s discovery came on Tuesday -two days after the defenseless little canine was discovered near the coastal town of Hatillo.
On Friday, according to ABC News and the Associated Press, the puppy was fine and had been playing on the beach with his mother and litter mates. Volunteers from the rescue would feed the abandoned and homeless dogs and pups hoping to find them homes one day. On Sunday, a volunteer found the suffering little one still alive in the parking lot.
Mariel Rojas, who runs the Rabito Kontento Animal Rescue rushed the tiny black mixed breed puppy to the vet, but was told the infection in his bones was too severe. Named by his rescuers “Ocean,” the puppy was then humanely euthanized.
On the group’s Facebook page, the English translation by Bing amplifies the shock, sorrow, and outrage the volunteers and readers felt by such an egregious crime. Although the translation may be broken, the feelings of compassion and loss are quite apparent:

The crime has enraged animal lovers in Puerto Rico and on the United States mainland insisting on stronger animal cruelty laws.
“No matter what this dog did, it doesn’t deserve that,” stated an Investigating Officer of Animal Cruelty, a nonprofit group in Puerto Rico that works with police in animal cruelty cases.
Rest in peace Ocean.
There are no clues as to the culprit who committed this terrible crime.
