Last weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Wildstar developer Carbine Studios finally revealed something that fans sort of knew all along, the identity of the last playable aliens for the rebellious Exiles and the totalitarian Dominion. Astute fans had even managed to piece together the name of the missing Dominion race and take a few stabs at the appearance of the rumored “space zombies” who joined the Exiles. Now, with a new trailer, fans are finally introduced to the Chua and the Mordesh.
The Chua (pronounced “Chew-Ah”) are, as speculated, the fuzzy scientifically inclined counterparts to the Aurins on the Exiles side. As also speculated with some careful sleuthing of various gameplay videos (such as Totalbiscuit’s E3 developer interview,) they are also hyperactive sociopaths with a thing for spelling science with big capital letters and exclamation points. Anyway, the Chua as revealed in the “Dirty Little Secret” trailer and the official information on the website are a short race of beings (they come up to the waists of the more human-like character models) that look like a cross between a rabbit and a kangaroo rat and are hyperactive gremlins and tinkers. Physically unfit to be Warriors or Stalkers, the Chua can only roll Espers and Spellslingers at the time of writing; it is implied that they have access to two more character classes that will be available once the game goes live later this year.
The Mordesh (pronounced “More-Desh”) are the quasi-undead Exile race that had been briefly hinted at in the “Meet the Exiles” video. Master alchemists and physicians, the Mordesh were once the rock stars of the Wildstar universe, even so far as getting invited into the Dominion. Then it all went wrong when their most renowned alchemist Victor Lazarin supposedly cracked the secret of immortality with his Everlife Elixir. Apparently forgetting the purpose of lengthy, structured clinical trials, the Mordesh promptly put Victor’s masterpiece into worldwide distribution… it was soon discovered that the elixir was unstable and caused a combination of necromantic degeneration and a cannibalistic rage. The resulting zombie outbreak nearly wiped out the entire species in a few weeks. Despite the Dominion quarantine and their dwindling numbers, the Mordesh managed to create a serum that suppressed the psychological symptoms of the failed Everlife Elixir. Appealing to the Exiles for membership, the Mordesh were slowly smuggled off their planet and joined the journey to Nexus in the hopes that a cure could be found in the alien ruins below the planet’s surface.
Wildstar is currently in open beta and set for release sometime late 2013. For more information, check the official site.
