College wrestling fans can now determine which assistant coach is the champ when it comes to using social media.
Starting Monday morning through this Friday, fans may now vote online for one of eight nominees who use social media such as Facebook and Twitter to effectively market their programs — and build their own personal brand — as part of the 2013 Social Media of the Year awards sponsored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and Elite Level Sport Marketing (ELSM).
To cast a vote, visit the ELSM website — the ballot is right on the home page.
This year’s nominees for Social Media of the Year awards for assistant coaches, in alphabetical order:
- Todd Beckerman (@BeckermanT) – Assistant Coach at Maryland
- Alex Clemson (@alextclemsen) – Assistant Coach at Virginia
- Sammie Henson (@sammiehenson) – Assistant Coach at Missouri
- Jamill Kelly (@jamill_kelly) – Assistant Coach at North Carolina State
- Danny Irwin (@DannyIrwin2) – Assistant Coach at Wabash
- Rocco Mansueto (@MansuetoRocco) – Assistant Coach at Tennessee Chattanooga
- Troy Nickerson (@troy_nickerson) – Assistant Coach at Iowa State
- Kevin Roberts (@kroberts118) – Assistant Coach at Oregon State
“The nominated coaches have done a really nice job using social media to engage followers,” said ELSM CEO Coyte Cooper, a former NCAA All-American wrestler and assistant coach at Indiana University. “By investing in mediums like Twitter, they have each helped to build interest in their program and the sport.”
Winners will be determined by a combination of an online voting competition among fans (which accounts for 40% of the decision) and a panel of judges assessing performance (60%).
Voting for the Assistant Coach category is open now through Friday, May 31 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Fans will be allowed to vote once each day.
The winner of the award will be announced Monday, June 17 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the @ELSMarketing Twitter account.
Each winner will receive a custom framed awards poster and will be honored in a feature story that will be housed on the ELSM and NWCA sites. These individuals will also be recognized at the NWCA Convention in August.
In addition to an award for assistant college wrestling coaches, there will be separate voting for wrestlers and head coaches:
- Wrestler: June 3-7
- Head Coach: June 10-14
Nominations for these other categories may be emailed to Cooper at email@example.com.
