The Major League Baseball flavor of the month, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig made his case for inclusion in next month’s All-Star game.
Yesterday on a day off in New York City, Yasiel Puig hit up the fans outside the confines of a baseball stadium.
There he was at the MLB Fan Cave. Check out the video.
Back in the 1970s when the U.S. and China were exploring diplomatic relations, the game of ping-pong was used to bridge a social gap.
Puig hit the ping-pong table with fans as well pose for endless numbers of photos, video clips and even got his hair trimmed a bit in the old-time barber’s chair at the site.
Puig, whose English is coming along spoke with fans both in English and his native tongue.
What was not disguised at all is his hope that fans will swamp the ballot boxes with votes that would put him into the MLB All-Star game lineup for 2013.
A write-in vote at this juncture is a long shot. It would have to overcome the months-long head start others got by being on the pre-printed ballots.
There is a rumbling from some baseball media members that without Puig, the game would have a gaping hole in it.
The LA Times reported that Yasiel Puig’s jersey sold more in a four-day period than Fernando, Manny or Hideo Nomo, after the Cuban defector had played a week’s worth of games. It’s a Dodgers record.
Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club promoters know a star when they see one. After the Man Cave, the Dodgers phenom attended the club’s tenth anniversary party in Manhattan.
Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan made his case for Puig.
“This is the sort of person baseball should beg to play July 16 at Citi Field. The Midsummer Classic is Midsummer Flaccid.”
The tune-in factor can’t be minimized, particularly if the kid could enter the Home Run Derby. Passan has expressed on other occasions that the Derby’s fix could revolve around how far a ball travels, rather than how many are hit.
Puig’s already shown his ability to hit one way back, back, back. Shades of Bo Jackson?
What do you think about getting out the vote for Puig? Should he be celebrated with such a small sample size of games?
