In time for the summer festival season, Yes brings their first ever festival – Yestival – to Camden NJ, across the river from Philadelphia on Saturday August 3 at the Susquehanna Bank Center. The day-into-night musical adventure will be presented in full quadraphonic sound and include four major acts with several support groups.
Longtime favorites in Philadelphia, a city whose fans embraced the British group early on, Yes will perform The Yes Album and Close To The Edge in their entirety, along with other Yes songs. They will be joined by progressive rock acts The Musical Box, (a Genesis tribute band who will perform “Foxtrot,”) Renaissance featuring Anne Haslam, and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy.
“This is a concept we’ve been trying to put into motion for some time, and only now we’ve been able to turn it into reality, Yes bassist Chris Squire explained recently. “We’re looking forward to starting Yestival out in the Philadelphia area, which has been a Yes stronghold since the ’70s.”
A second stage of all-day entertainment with performances by up-and-coming progressive rock bands will include: Volto (featuring members of Tool), Sound of Contact (Phil Collins’ son’s band), Scale the Summit, The School of Rock, and a special appearance by Yes’ longtime artist, Roger Dean who will be stationed at a booth on the premises to sign autographs and meet the fans.
The Yes lineup for Yestival will be: bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes and singer Jon Davison. Yes singer Jon Anderson has not been up to the rigors of touring that Yes sets out to do, so he tours on his own as a solo act occasionally. Rick Wakeman is busy with a television career in England. Yes is on the road constantly, and Yestival is part of a North America tour that began July 6 and runs through August 12.
Also present on site will be the Classic Rock Society of America. In addition, Yestival will feature a special exhibition and sale of Carl Palmer’s acclaimed art work – including a meet and greet with Palmer and audience members after his presentation. And Annie Haslam of Renaissance will also have her paintings on display.
Tickets and special VIP packages to Yestival are available through Ticketmaster.
