Local Las Cruces parents can get some stress relief and bonding time with their little ones by attending a free parent-baby yoga class at Downtown Desert Yoga, according to Las Cruces Sun News on May 2.
This hour long free class provides an opportunity for moms and dads to bond with their kids on a more physical and emotional level. Hosted by Jane Bloom, a certified yoga instructor at Downtown Desert Yoga (DDY), and Angie Osborne, a developmental specialist from Aprendamos Intervention Team, these classes are designed for pre-walking babies and will concentrate on gentle stimulation and bonding between parent and child.
Aprendamos and DDY have teamed up to offer this once a week class so frazzled parents can step away from life’s distractions and spend some uninterrupted time with their child and actually relax. Best of all, no experience is required. According to Bloom,
“All exercises are designed to do with caregivers and do not require previous yoga experience. The class will help build a solid foundation of lifelong learning and bonding together.”
While each week’s session will focus on a different energy center of the baby that correlates to a specific developmental milestone, the class will also touch on the importance of self-care.
“As caregivers, we must learn to fill our own cup in order to care for others,” Jane Bloom said. “I see many parents, particularly mothers, who are all things to everyone but themselves — in a constant state of multitasking.”
For more information on this six-week session that is open to the community including Aprendamos clients, contact DDY at 575-647-YOGA (9642) or visit downtowndesertyoga.com.
Aprendamos offers early intervention services, as well as occupational, physical and speech therapy for children who may be at risk for developmental delay or disability between birth and three years of age . For more information, visit aitkids.com.
