The gym. A place to work, sweat, learn, grow, get healthy. The gym is even somewhat a place of refuge. It is therapy, it is pain and pleasure, it is the frequent user’s “get away zone”. Those who do not participate in the contagious gym life experience will not understand. Most people are clueless. You cannot make them understand. They don’t get it.
They don’t understand your drive and passion to be better, to stay better, to accomplish. They don’t understand why you work and diet so hard for just an improved physique or maybe just a trophy. They don’t possess your discipline. They don’t have personal goals that require work and dedication. They call you names because they have an inward jealousy of the way you look and the self discipline your possess. They secretly want what you have, but they are unwilling to do what it takes to get it. They are talkers and not doers.
Yes, the gym is an awesome place. It teaches you how to work and succeed. It teaches you the quality of not quitting but pushing past plateaus. It has mirrors so you can look yourself in the eye when you are doubting and tell yourself “don’t quit”. The gym is the king of teaching you the belief “yes you can”.
Is the gym the most important place or thing on earth? Of course not. God would be first in that category. But, the gym is an important place nonetheless. Champions have been built in the gym. Not only physique champions, but champions in life because the gym causes an “I don’t quit” attitude. Again, most people don’t get it and never will. But for the ones that do, we salute you. We are all gym rat brothers and sisters. We do what we do and we love it. Here’s to the gym!
